Canberra Youth Orchestra Opera Gala
Music For Canberra presents the Canberra Youth Orchestra 2018 Concert Series.
Opening with CYO’s Opera Gala, renowned performers Tobias Cole, Louise Page and Sarahlouise Owens will present some of the most popular arias and overtures from over 300 years.
The program will include arias from Handel’s Giulio Cesare, the iconic drinking song Brindisi from Verdi’s La Traviata, and highlights from Australian composer Elena Katz-Chernin’s Wild Swans. The orchestra will perform Rossini’s William Tell Overture and highlights from Bizet’s Carmen Suites.
Tobias Cole is a Principal Artist with Opera Australia and is globally renowned as a leading countertenor. Since graduating from the Royal College of Music on a Churchill Fellowship and performing with the famed Metropolitan Opera, he is regularly in demand by all Australian orchestras and opera companies.
Soprano Louise Page OAM is one of Australia’s most highly regarded singers and has performed throughout Australia and Europe, including with the Canberra Youth Orchestra and Musica Viva, as well as in the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, Canberra International Chamber Music Festival and Voices in the Forest concerts.
Sarahlouise Owens is known for Art Song recitals, liturgical and concert repertoire as well as theatrical performances in opera and music-theatre. She has worked extensively in Europe and was a member of the ensemble of the Wagner Summer Festival in Bayreuth. Locally, Sarahlouise has performed with Handel in the Theatre, the Canberra Repertory Society and in the Canberra International Music Festival.
