A beginner string ensemble for players Beginner to AMEB 1 level
Saturdays 9:00 - 10:30am with Mandy
Camerata Strings is our youngest string ensemble that allows beginner string players the opportunity to participate in their first performance group and learn the fundamentals of ensemble technique, as well as working under the direction of a conductor for the first time. Camerata strings is conducted by our friendly, patient and supportive conductor, Mandy Philipse (also a professional musician and music teacher outside MFC).
Music For Canberra believes strongly in the importance of performance in improving the self-confidence and musical ability of students of all ages, and in line with this, Camerata Strings players participate in our String Stream concerts at the end of each term (see the Events page to view upcoming performances), and have the chance to perform at other community events throughout the year.
Approximate standard: Beginner to AMEB 1 level, or equivalent (participants are expected to be taking additional individual instrumental tuition in addition to orchestra; this can be arranged with a Music For Canberra tutor if a student doesn’t already have a private teacher).
Do I need to audition for Camerata Strings?
No audition is required to join Camerata Strings, and the group is open to violin, viola, cello & double bass. Please complete our membership form to arrange coming along for a free trial, where the conductor can assess your playing level and advise whether Camerata is right for you, or if you should audition for one of our higher-level string ensembles, like Sinfonietta Strings, String Ensemble or Peg Mantle Strings.
