Music for adults with disability
An inclusive, supportive group music program designed for adults living with disability
Our Mixed Abilities Program of music groups designed for adults living with disability, use the powerful (and fun!) medium of music to encourage participants to develop skills in coordination, concentration, social interaction and gain self-confidence. The tutors for this program are music educators and professional musicians with experience working with people with diverse needs, engaging with musical genres & instruments from many cultures. Participants attend these group sessions with their support workers, who are expected to play an active role in the class. Classes are held at Ainslie Arts Centre and Tuggeranong Arts Centre (Belconnen Arts Centre or other venues can be arranged by special request – contact us to discuss).
Music For Canberra believes strongly in the importance of performance in improving the self-confidence and musical ability of students of all ages and ability levels, and Mixed Abilities participants who would like to are certainly encouraged to participate in our member concert events (but are under no pressure if they don’t wish to).
Our Mixed Abilities Program of music lessons for adults living with disability also includes a MAP Music Craft class for children 7-15 years who are living with disability.
