Rock Academy

A rock band program for those 11-18 yrs who play guitar, bass, drums or sing

Fridays 4:00 - 6:00pm with Pat and Michelle

Want to be in a band and play guitar, bass, drums or sing? Music For Canberra’s Rock Academy allows you to play, learn and diversify your musical knowledge.

Taught by Patrick Quinn Quirke (Guitar) and Michelle Forman (Drums) term one’s lessons will lead up to an end of term showcase concert whilst term two concentrates on developing skills further, culminating with a recording session.

You will learn:

  • The fundamentals of playing in a band
  • How to break down and learn covers from different genres
  • Arrangements for different band set-ups
  • Tips and techniques for writing original music
  • Developing performance techniques
  • Learn and practice mixing techniques

Students will be split into different bands to develop these skills further and polish a program for the end of term showcase. Bands will change their make-up to ensure the right fit for student and to expose you to a variety of different style, genres and set-ups.

In term two the program will develop further and you’ll work towards the ultimate goal attending a recording session at the ANU School of Music where you will learn and practice mixing techniques.

How do I get into Rock Academy?

Musicians in Rock Academy are expected to be fairly confident on their instrument already, as these programs are not about instrumental tuition. Contact us to arrange to meet with Pat and Michelle before joining Rock Academy.
