ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Award 2015

December 15, 2015

Friday 27th November 2015

Parliament House was the perfect venue for the ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards Presentation for 2015.  There was no expense spared with the number of fairy lights, but outshining them was the room full of amazingly talented and committed individuals celebrating inclusion, and the benefits of seeking out, engaging with and embracing diversity.

The list of nominees was impressive and meeting most of the winners of each category throughout the night was both uplifting and humbling.  Ruth O’Brien (a past MFC staff member) provided the musical interludes, supplemented by a video screening of “This isn’t Disneyland” by the Sisters of Invention which was extremely well received.

To accept the award for Inclusion in Education and Training was an absolute honor.  What a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the amazing work done by the staff, students, parents, carers and all our Music for Canberra supporters.  Over the last year prior to joining MFC, I have witnessed their achievements, talked with staff about music and teaching philosophies and listened with joy as each week the sounds from teaching spaces continually improved.

There has been great work achieved in the last year and to be acknowledged as the peer in this field by the Chief Minister and the Inclusion Council is testament to the strength of heart of this organisation.  I will ensure that we remain committed to strive for improvement in the quality of musical experiences we provide, and to continue to investigate ways in which we can enhance inclusion.

Please join with me in thanking our former CEO Toni Maxfield, the Board, all the MFC staff and volunteers – in particular of course our Mixed Ability Program staff for the fantastic work they do with our Mixed Abilities Program – and all our clients who are so willing to learn, to try new things and be involved.  CONGRATULATIONS!
