Allegro Choir Sings at Age-Friendly Report Launch

February 29, 2016

Thursday 25th February 2016

On Thursday 25th February, the Allegro choir for adults 55+ years (the newest program to join the Music For Canberra family) performed their first public concert for 2016, as the star attraction at the launch of the ACT Government & COTA’s report into Age-Friendly Communities, launched by Minister Shane Rattenbury.

Performing to a packed Corroboree Park hall, the Allegro Choir, lead by conductor Sarahlouise Owens, had toes tapping and heads bopping along – and some singing along to their popular tunes! The choir’s energy was infectious, and many choristers reported it as one of their best performances yet – we can’t wait to see what else they come up with throughout 2016.

Our CEO, Kathleen Grant, says: “It was inspiring to see such a large number of musicians clearly enjoying themselves and creating joy for others with their singing. The repertoire was well chosen and well executed and I must admit to several times having goose bumps from the sound.  When we only listen to recorded music, being in the presence of soundwaves in person is really a joy, and is good for the soul. I would like to congratulate every member of the choir for engaging with their singing so enthusiastically.  I felt as a whole the group was cohesive and supportive of each other’s sound and this is incredibly important, particularly in choral music. The relaxed movement of the choir created a great visual effect and gave so much energy to the performance that I could not stop smiling.”

The Allegro Choir meet 10:30 – 12:30pm Tuesdays at Tuggeranong Arts Centre, and their new sister choir, Vivace Choir for adults 55+ runs 10:30 – 12:30pm Fridays at the Ainslie Arts Centre – both choirs are non-auditioned and warmly welcome enthusiastic new members throughout the year, so please contact the office if you or someone you know would like to come along for a free trial in one of our choirs.
