Canberra Youth Orchestra Concert 2: Concerto Comp Winner

In June, the CYO 2018 Concerto Competition Winner, flautist Serena Ford will perform their chosen concerto with Canberra Youth Orchestra in this second concert of the 2018 Concert Series.

Music For Canberra presents the Canberra Youth Orchestra 2018 Concert Series.

In June, the CYO 2018 Concerto Competition Winner, flautist Serena Ford will perform La Flûte de Pan by Jules Mouquet, with the Canberra Youth Orchestra. The Orchestra will also perform Australian works Running-Resting-Reeling by Sally Whitwell and Sonic Boom by Natalie Williams, as well as Mussorgsky’s iconic piece Pictures at an Exhibition.

Serena is CYO’s Principal Flautist and a second-year Asian studies student at the Australian National University. She started playing the flute at age 10 with the ACT Instrumental Music Program and is currently studying with Kiri Sollis. Serena loves the flute for its light, glittering personality and variety of tones. While she is classically trained and enjoys expressive French romantic pieces, she dabbles in Brazilian street-style flute, Choro, and has recently been interested in music hailing from the Asia-Pacific.

This annual tradition is an unmissable opportunity to hear one of Australia’s best up-and-coming soloists supported by their peers. Former Concerto Competition winners have gone on to study across Australia and abroad, performed in principal positions with the Australian Youth Orchestra and earned positions in leading orchestras overseas.
