CYO present Folk Tales at Llewellyn Hall
Saturday 5th December, 7:30pm
The Canberra Youth Orchestra will present the final instalment of their 2015 Llewellyn Hall concert schedule on Saturday 5th December, 2015 at 7:30pm.
Entitled ‘Folk Tales’, newly-appointed conductor Leonard Weiss will lead the CYO as they perform Grieg’s Symphonic Dances, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.2.
Featuring two brilliant European works, the concert begins with Grieg’s Symphonic Dances, Op. 64. Inspired by Norwegian folk melodies collected during the late 1800, Grieg depicts four moving scenes marked by expressive melodies throughout the orchestra. Complemented by Tchaikovsky’s “Little Russian” Symphony No. 2, Op. 17, built from Ukrainian folk songs, the full force of the orchestra is shown in this uncharacteristically uplifting symphony.
These tremendous works show the strength and versatility of European nationalism in the late 19th Century. We welcome you to join us for what will be a spectacular finale to the Canberra Youth Orchestra’s 2015 program!
