Musical magic made at Music For Canberra

Thank you to all of the musicians, conductors, orchestra managers and the MfC community for making our April 2, 2022 concerts such a fantastic success!

The Big Jam at the Ainslie Arts Centre saw plenty of grooving and fun as our Mixed Ability Program musicians presented their favourite songs and dances to friends and family. Over at Albert Hall we were treated to First Steps: A Classical Journey, by our String Stream musicians who cleared the clouds and filled the Albert Hall with beautiful music. The Canberra Children’s Choir contributed their joyous voices and Tobias invited the audience to sing along in lovely harmony.

The grand finale was the Magic and the Masters, where the Canberra Youth Orchestra (CYO) and the James McCusker Orchestra (JMO) performed their magnificent program of contemporary Australian compositions, including a world premiere of Sarah Hopkins’ work ‘Ancient Forests Once Stood Here’ and, alongside canon greats. We heard harmonic whirlies and birds coaxed from the CYO strings, a rousing performance of Beethoven from JMO and the Mozart Overture blew us away. What a brilliant start to 2022, and this is just the beginning…

Music for Canberra is proud to present Canberra’s elite young talent in the Canberra Youth Orchestra (CYO) and the James McCusker Orchestra (JMO) at the Albert Hall.

Be swept away by Verdi’s La Traviata, enter ancient forests and cross bubbling streams with Australian composers Sarah Hopkins and Maria Grenfell, and fall in love with Beethoven, Handel and Mozart all over again.

This is more than a concert, this is an experience. Magic and the Masters is a celebration of music, culture, and Canberra. So join us for pre-show bubbles accompanied by a surprise act before stepping into the art deco halls for the magical program performed by the CYO and JMO.
