Peg Mantle Strings
Advanced string ensemble for young players AMEB level 4+
Saturdays 9:00 - 12:00am with Tim Wickham
As Music For Canberra’s most advanced youth string ensemble, Peg Mantle Strings focuses on developing the intricacies and skills required for advanced ensemble playing. Peg Mantle Strings is conducted by professional musician and music teacher, Tim Wickham, who challenges Peg Mantle Strings players to tackle a broad and mature performance repertoire.
Music For Canberra believes strongly in the importance of performance in improving the self-confidence and musical ability of students of all ages, and in line with this, Peg Mantle Strings players participate in our String Stream concerts at the end of each term (see the Events page to view upcoming performances), and have the chance to perform at other community events throughout the year.
Approximate standard: AMEB 4+ or equivalent (participants are expected to be taking additional individual instrumental tuition in addition to orchestra; this can be arranged with a Music For Canberra tutor if a student doesn’t already have a private teacher).
If you would like to find out more about Peg Mantle Strings or our other groups for children and adults of all skill levels, please contact us via email at the office or call on 02 6182 0030. You can view the full current Music For Canberra program to find out what other classes we offer.
Do I have to audition to join Peg Mantle Strings?
An audition is required to join Peg Mantle Strings. Peg Mantle Strings does consider new applicants all throughout the year, dependent on chair availability. New students joining us throughout the year may be offered a one-off, individual audition, held at the Ainslie Arts Centre just after a regular Saturday rehearsal, and will be given audition music to practise 2 weeks before your scheduled audition date. Please contact the office to arrange an audition throughout the year.
