Our program of musical lessons & workshops for adults living with disability uses the powerful (and fun!) medium of music to encourage participants to develop skills in coordination, concentration, social interaction and gain self-confidence. If a group environment is not what you (or your client, if you’re a support worker) desire, we offer tailor-made individual music lessons typically in guitar, hand drumming or drum kit, recorder, singing – or any of our other many musical instruments taught at Music for Canberra.
The tutors for this program are music educators and professional musicians with experience working with people with diverse needs, engaging with musical genres & instruments from many cultures. Participants may attend individual sessions with their carers or on their own. Classes are held at Ainslie Arts Centre.
Our Mixed Abilities Program of music lessons for adults living with disability also includes many MAP Music Groups specifically for those wishing to play hand drums and percussive instruments, as well as a MAP Music Craft class for children 7-15 years who are living with disability.
Concession card holders are entitled to a 15% discount on term fees for private lessons (the fees for other classes in our Mixed Abilities Program of music designed for adults & children living with disability are subsidised by generous support from the Snow Foundation).
Various days & times – please contact us at the office if you would like to find out more about booking a private lesson for an adult living with disability.
