An intermediate string ensemble for players AMEB level 1-2
Saturdays 9:00 - 11:30am with Kyle Ramsay-Daniel
The Sinfonietta Strings ensemble provides participants with the chance to work on the technical and musical skills involved in ensemble playing, from bow strokes and exploration of second and third positions to intonation, section balance and following a conductor.
Music For Canberra believes strongly in the importance of performance in improving the self-confidence and musical ability of students of all ages, and in line with this, Sinfonietta Strings players participate in our String Stream concerts at the end of each term (see the Events page to view upcoming performances), and have the chance to perform at other community events throughout the year.
Approximate standard: AMEB 1-2 or equivalent (participants are expected to be taking additional individual instrumental tuition in addition to orchestra; this can be arranged with a Music For Canberra tutor if a student doesn’t already have a private teacher).
If you would like to find out more about Sinfonietta Strings or our other groups for children and adults of all skill levels, please contact us via email at the office or call on 02 6182 0030. You can view the full current Music For Canberra program to find out what other classes we offer.
Do I have to audition to join Sinfonietta Strings?
An audition is required to join Sinfonietta Strings. Sinfonietta Strings does consider new applicants all throughout the year, dependent on chair availability. New students joining us throughout the year may be offered a one-off, individual audition, held at the Ainslie Arts Centre just after a regular Saturday rehearsal, and will be given audition music to practise 2 weeks before your scheduled audition date. Please contact the office to arrange an audition throughout the year.
Sinfonietta Strings is open to violin, viola, cello & double bass.
