Review: JMO Celebrate Spring at Wesley

James McCusker Orchestra Celebrate Spring at the Wesley
On Saturday 3rd September, the talented young James McCusker Orchestra presented an uplifting concert at the Wesley Music Centre Church to herald the start of Spring.
Conducted by Shilong Ye, the orchestra also had the excellent opportunity of working alongside cello soloist, William Tu, travelling from Sydney to perform with the JMO.
Music For Canberra CEO Kathleen Grant says:
“There were many smiles and a very full house last Saturday at the Wesley Uniting Church to enjoy the James McCusker Orchestra’s presentation of an ambitious program of Elgar.
The orchestra, under the baton of Shilong Ye, continues to develop in leaps and bounds honing ensemble skills and developing an engaging lyrical style as demonstrated throughout the program but particularly, Salut d’Amour. The intensity of soloist William Tu was well supported by the orchestra with outstanding ensemble and accompanying moments in the fiendishly difficult Cello Concerto in E Minor, Op85. Prior to the resounding Pomp and Circumstance finale, the notable goose bump moment of the concert for me was the powerful crescendos achieved in “Nimrod”.
Outstanding control and tight ensemble playing was a pleasure to listen to. Thank you to MFC staff, Martin Elias, Peter Hislop, our wonderful soloist William Tu and the dedicated manager-and-conductor team of Dot O’Connor and Shilong Ye.”
Many thanks as well to our friends at the Wesley Music Centre for helping us facilitate this concert in their beautiful venue.
