Larry Sitsky AO
CYO Patron

Larry has had a long and distinguished career in the arts as a concert pianist, music educator, researcher and mentor to thousands of young musicians. He was a founding member of the Canberra School of Music, (now Australian National University School of Music), where he is now an Emeritus Professor, and has been the recipient of many honours including Order of Australia, Centenary Medal, Advance Australia award, and cultural ambassadorships to China, Russia and the USA.

Although this list of achievements are impressive, and possibly even a little intimidating, Larry has always given his time graciously and is a generous and approachable person.

“The 50th birthday of the CYO is a significant cultural milestone for all of the ACT. The CYO has helped to produce many fine musicians, who have gone on to further their careers and experience. It is especially at this moment, with the recent problems at the School of Music and the slow and gradual re-invigoration of the School within the ANU, that the CYO is vitally important. And, of course, the bottom line is the fine music-making that the CYO has done for half a century, in many many concerts, and thrilling many many audiences. Dear CYO, Happy Birthday, and let us look forward to the next 50 years!”
