Ensure you have carefully read all placement instructions.

Strings - There are 3 excerpt levels for each instrument (1, 2 & 3 with 1 being the easiest level). Choose the appropriate level for you with your instrumental teacher. There are 2 excerpts per level – you will need to prepare both excepts in your chosen level.
Double bass has only one level – please prepare both excerpts.

Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion – There are 2 excerpt levels for each instrument (1 & 2 with 1 being easiest). Choose the appropriate level for you with your instrumental teacher. There is 1 excerpt per level.

You will also need to prepare a piece of your own choosing that showcases your ability: maximum 2 minutes length (this can be a section of a longer piece).

There will be a sight reading component. All musicians will be asked to give it their best go playing a piece “at sight.” (one they’ve never seen before).
